I walk toward the sea today.
I walk to the periphery,
Toward the asking water,
And it offers a reflection
Built of pieces,
A picture in the breaching waves
Beneath a dose of sunset
And I’m drunken with its warmth
So forward into it I turn
To touch what I can only guess
Are parts of me.

I walk toward a sea
Like broken mirrors at my feet
And one step closer only proves
How deep they cut,
A skyline crushed and furious
And blue so mad I’m drowning
In the saturated air it heaves.

I walk toward the sea
Because it draws me
Like a question,
And if I answer
It should take my life in payment.
For I’ve seen a thousand likenesses
In just a single tide,
So it’s not mine
Whatever answer that I give.
