Let me stay

I won’t outstay my welcome,
But just let me shelter
Here a moment
While it storms.

I’ve been in rain
So long I dream of
Drowning and
The petrichor
Has all but
Washed away.

And now the clouds,
They chase me,
But I’m waterlogged
And slow,
And spume
Buries my breath
In a miasma
Grey and tired
So to mock
My lack of sleep.

Just let me rest
A while inside
Where you’ve
Been kindling
Fires and watching
Storms in peace.

Let me sleep here in
Your dream of
Clearer skies
Before I have to
Wake to rain again.
Let this drier day
Convince me that
It’s clear.
