Following from fading light
A rainstorm passing by.
Listening to tears across
The soil make their peace
And reassure the earth
That it’s alright to take its fill.

Swallowing the bitter dose
Of evening grey to
Heal the wounds from
Harder days retracing
One by one mistaken
Steps I might be taking still.

Hollowing the place inside me
Where the sorrow has survived.
Wondering how long the storm
Will last and how much pain
Will wash away before these
Scars are closed and sealed.

Hoping not to lose sight
Of the clouds before they pass
And better weather sets
An altered view before me
Of a pasture drenched in the illusion
That there’s always sunlight on the field.
