The last few lines

I’ve just begun to realize I find this truth misleading. Somewhere between these last few lines the tone makes a facetious turn and leaves me thinking that I’ve missed the connotations all along, that I’ve garnered faulty profits turning phrases on assumptions, that certainty would pay me dividends and so I’ve written all this poetry and guaranteed its candor, but the words were only borrowed, and the terms were esoteric, and I try but don’t remember if I’ve leveraged them correctly.

I’ve just begun to realize how little this will matter.
Once the adages are spoken they begin to evanesce
And not a remnent of their weight is left,
But just the breath they carried on
Exhausted and abandoned,
Unfit to lift another word but silence.
