Another hour

I score the sheet and snap it
And I throw the scrap away.
I sand the edge, I wash it,
And I pour a little alcohol into the wound.

Another hour, another week, another year.

A pane as clear as I can make
So you can have a view.
A little glue, a drop of blood,
The bill is in the mail and no I haven’t got the stitches yet.

Another hour, another week, another year.

A plate to keep the table nice,
A shelf for your display.
I’ll make sure that the edge is dull,
And yes thank you for noticing, the scar is healing fine.

Another hour, another week, another year.

A mirror for your vanity?
I’ll have it in a day.
No, I won’t need a deposit,
And I’ll try to have it sooner, but this bandage slows me down.

Another hour, another week, another year.

The small one for your picture frame?
I can’t charge you for that.
The glass is only worth some change,
And anyway, this little nick I’ve got is bleeding pretty good.

Another hour, another week, another year.

A cover for your fireplace?
I’ll cut it for you now.
It’s awfully cold to go without.
And I score the sheet and snap it, but the cut’s too cold to run.

Another hour, another week, another year.
